Invent
Say it like this
To make something that did not exist before, usually because you got annoyed about a problem.
For the grown-up
To invent is to produce a solution that did not previously exist. Most inventions are not flashes of genius, they are somebody being irritated by the same thing often enough to do something about it.
The easy mistake
Careful here. Inventing and discovering are different. You discover something that was already there. You invent something that was not.
